A two-day symposium was held in conjunction with the exhibitions American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity (on view at the Met May 5–August 15, 2010) and American High Style: Fashioning a National Collection (on view at the Brooklyn Museum May 7–August 1, 2010).
The symposium examined the historic collection-sharing collaboration between the Brooklyn Museum and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The first day's program, presented at the Brooklyn Museum on May 21, 2010, illuminated the particulars of the innovative arrangement and provided insight into the three-year collection assessment project that preceded it. The second day of the symposium was presented at the Met on May 22, 2010.
The event was co-hosted by the Brooklyn Museum and the Met's Costume Institute.
